The Cyber Skills Enrichment Program could be the opportunity you have been looking for.
Through this program, Cyber Audit Team are offering paid industry placements to eligible candidates that will increase the quality and quantity of cyber security professionals in South-East Queensland.
The placements are aimed at those who already have some IT knowledge, basic cyber knowledge, other related transferable skills or prior learning, but lack the required skills and/or experience that employers often require.
The placement will provide successful candidates with ‘real-world’ cyber security skills and industry knowledge, making them ‘job-ready’ and increasing their employability.
Who should apply?
The world of cyber security is multifaceted and requires people from diverse backgrounds who can bring a variety of transferable skills, experiences and lateral ways of thinking.
Whilst having a fundamental understanding of IT, cyber security or governance risk and compliance (GRC) would be advantageous – candidates for this program don’t have to come from an IT background.
If you are an aspiring cyber security professional with basic, intermediate or advanced IT skills, or have relevant IT or cyber security qualifications, we encourage you to apply for an industry placement today!

Drawing upon industry-based expertise and feedback from the cyber security sector, the Cyber Skills Enrichment Program will provide you with a structured work-integrated learning curriculum to develop the ‘real-world’ skills and knowledge you need to enter and thrive within the cyber security industry.

Who should consider undertaking the training?
Our training program is aimed at those who are looking at a career in cyber security and do not yet have any industry skills, knowledge or experience. That said, it does not exclude those who may have already started their cyber security journey and want to gain some broader skills.
Do I need any technical skills or knowledge to do the training?
No. We have courses for all levels of skills and knowledge, and the training is open to everyone.
Is the training free?
All cyber security training, provided through Cyber Audit Team, will be free to individuals under this program.
When does the training program commence?
- Individuals can sign-up for the training program from October 2023.
- The overall program will run until December 2024.
What do I get at the end of my training?
At a minimum you will receive a certificate of completion for the courses you complete.
Who should consider applying for a placement?

Are placements paid?
Yes. Successful candidates will be paid as per standard industry wage rates and benefits relevant to the role they are performing.
How long will the placement be for?
Successful candidates will be offered either full-time or part-time placement for a period of 3-6 months.
Are there any opportunities for full-time employment following the placement?
Absolutely! This is one of the measurements of success for this program, and we will do everything we can to assist successful candidates in gaining full-time employment within the industry.
There will also be opportunities for some candidates to gain full-time employment with Cyber Audit Team.
When does the placement program commence?
- Applications for the placement program will open in October 2023.
- We anticipate the placement program commencing in October 2023.
- The program will run until December 2024.
Where will I be expected to work during the paid placement?
The program requires candidates to work from our Gold Coast offices, based near Griffith University in Southport, with a minimum of 60% of time spent in our office.
Is there any flexibility in terms of remote work or flexible hours for the placement?
Yes! We want you and this program to be successful and recognise the importance and value of flexibility. All our staff have flexible working conditions.
The program requires 60% of your time spent in the office to ensure you receive the best possible outcomes. Where possible, we will work with candidates to address their individual and personal circumstances.
Do I need any technical skills or knowledge for a placement?
Yes. Placement candidates will need to demonstrate a basic level of knowledge and skill to be selected for these paid placements.
That said, we are looking at increasing the quality and quantity of cyber security professionals in South East Queensland, and if you have related or transferable skills, we would still encourage you to apply.
By way of example - you may be:
- a student studying IT or cyber security
- a graduate of IT or cyber security
- an IT professional seeking to transition into cyber security
- a military veteran seeking to transition your military skills into cyber security
- you may be returning to the workforce and need to update your skills and knowledge.
What is the eligibility criteria for paid placements?
Minimum Requirements
- You must be 18 or older.
- You must have the right to live and work in Australia.
- You must be able to physically attend our offices on the Gold Coast at least 60% of the time of the placement.
- You must speak fluent English.
Professional/Personal References
- To be successful you will need to provide relevant and current references. These do not need to be specific to cyber security.
Police Background Checks
- Given the nature of our work, underpinned by the fact that you will be working in a ‘live’ cyber security environment, all candidates will be subject to relevant police background checks.
Will there be an opportunity for me to contribute to ‘real-world’ cyber security projects?
Definitely! Successful placement candidates will have the opportunity to work with the team on real-world projects and scenarios.
What support will I receive during the placement?
Successful placement candidates will be provided with a designated mentor who will provide guidance and mentorship throughout the placement.
Additionally, you will be supported by a highly engaging team of colleagues who are also invested in your success.
How will my performance be evaluated during the placement?
Your performance will be evaluated against relevant learning outcomes, demonstration of proficiency skills, as well as agreed key performance indicators (KPI).
What do I get at the end of a placement?
At the end of the placement, candidates who have successfully completed the program will be afforded assistance in gaining full-time employment.
Full-time positions may be offered with Cyber Audit Team, one of our close industry partners or more broadly in our industry.
